Hey everyone!
I am so sorry for the lack of posts! Ive been working random hours for training and just haven’t had the energy or time to blog. My training is coming to an end so I am going to put up 2 blogs per week on my days off! Now lets get to this DIY.
I have been looking for a headboard FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. They are always super expensive ( I have a California King) and I just couldn’t fathom spending over 300 dollars for a board that goes above your bed. So I decided to take it into my own hands and make my own. I love how it turned out and I hope you do too!
So the supplies your going to need are:
These dimensions are for a CA king. You’ll have to measure if you have a smaller bed (:
- (6) 1x6x6 boards
- (1) 1x3x8 board cut into 2 36″ pieces
- Wood screws
- Stain
- Hanging wire
- Sand paper
Lay down the big boards how you want them to look.
Once you have the boards laid down your going to take the two 38″ pieces and lay them across all of the boards.
When you purchase your wood screws make sure they are long enough to go through both pieces but short enough to not poke through the front!
Now your going to screw the 38″ pieces to the 1×6 boards leaving the top screw poking out so you can hang up the headboard.
Now that you have the headboard put together your going to sand it and make it smooth so the stain adheres to it better. Once your done sanding your going to stain. I didn’t bother to buy a paintbrush so I grabbed one of Mike’s old socks and used that.
To hang the headboard I purchased 18gage hanging wire. It ended up being a lot thinner than I thought it was so I braided together a few of the wire pieces making it thicker and stronger. Mike helped me get the wire attached and strong enough to hang.
To make sure the headboard stayed on the wall Mike screwed wall anchors into the wall. Those grip into the studs and make it even more stable. Once those were in it was time to bring the board inside. It is pretty light which makes it easy to move.
We ordered a new comforter set and everything is finally finished except for the wall art. I love how my bed turned out! What do you guys think?
The window placing in my bedroom is super odd and the lighting I couldn’t make any better so sorry for the quality of the picture. But that is my completed bed and headboard!!
Oh my gosh! It looks really good! I laughed when I saw the picture of the sock-brush ahaha. Are you having fun decorating and organising your new place??
